Blog to blog.

Direct marketing;

Direct mail is a way in which you can communicate with your target audience; it is done by using methods like:

  • posting information through your door,
  • on the phone,
  • by email,
  • personal selling,
  • telesales,
  • mobile marketing,
  • direct mail,
  • or face to face.
Direct mail is also related to relationship marketing and that is where you try to build a relationship with your target audience; this is usually done as an event communications objective. Relationship marketing is more to do with emphasising customer retention, where as direct marketing is to do with gaining one-off transactions.

Move it;
When looking at the website of MOVE IT!, you can see that they are using various ways of trying to send their messages to their target audience, for example instead of letting you try to use some sort of sign up service to get information through, you have to connect with them on a social media site. Social media sites are the best way of getting mail direct to your target audience, mainly because everyone is on them; it is also beneficial for MOVE IT! to have their target audience on a social media site, because they can then see the type of people who are signing up for the website. People cannot get enough of facebook and twitter, it has this indescribable hold over all of us to make sure we check it every 10 minutes just to see who that person you don't really like anymore is going out with now or what that certain boys new display picture is. MOVE IT! have focused on Facebook and Twitter as their main social networks; they have also got a link to youtube which can help you see the latest videos that they are uploading relating to MOVE IT!
The website is also focusing on informing the target audience on news, offers, and highlights, so in a way the website is a type of direct marketing because it is telling you everything that you would be sent via email, post or face to face.

Such a flattering photo of me, I think the booklet brings out my eye! :)

An example of a type of MOVE IT! direct mail would be the MOVE IT! show guide booklets that are given out around the London area, this could be classed as personal selling. Somehow, I happened to accidentally not book my ticket to come back to High Wycombe, and then luckily when I came to buy a new ticket, I suddenly found a section of the Victoria station giving out MOVE IT! booklets right in front of me, it's as if I was made to be bad at traveling on purpose! These booklets are everywhere, especially in the London areas because of the location of the MOVE IT! dance competition.
The contents of this booklet include:

  • Floorplans and a-z exhibitor list
  • Visitor information
  • MOVE IT trade
  • Friday programme
  • Saturday programme
  • Sunday programme
  • Exhibitor profiles
  • Products and services listing
By reading the contents of this booklet, target audiences can then tell which part they think they'd be interesting in seeing.
The National Wedding Show;

The National Wedding Show has a totally different way of using direct marketing to their advantage. As well as MOVE IT!, they also use social media sites including facebook and twitter. They are the most well known social media sites and are used by various major events just so that they can get their message out there that bit quicker.
To add to this, you can sign up to the national wedding shows newsletter; this newsletter lets you sign up to receive their newsletters that will inform you on the forthcoming shows. Before doing this, you need to make an account with the national wedding show, and this includes you putting your email in once again; by putting your email address into the website, it then gives them permission to send you updates, offers, and competitions on the national wedding show.

As well having a newsletter that you can sign up to, this website gives you a chance to refer it to whoever you want. This is handy for some people who don't tend to research events on the internet and want to be be found to be given information about things they might be interested in.

This type of direct marketing provides personalised communication and a direct response from the target audience; by using strategies like this, you can then build a successful relationship with your target audience. Some direct marketing can be seen as a bit irritating and unwanted, but when it comes to something that you are interested in, direct mail can be just what you want; updates on the times and dates of forthcoming shows, or just new information on the latest exhibitions.
